OK, we get it!  Pinterest is the new “it” kid of the social network space.  We get it…and it makes sense for some brands and there are some good success stories.  But the marketing appeal is rather limited both in terms of reach and target (as this fun chart points out).  Still, a good success story to keep an eye on.

I think there’s a new currency that’s emerging in the music industry, which is how many people have shared a given song or a given artist on Facebook. “This currency is going to become the new way that people talk whether the music blowing up, and we’re just at the beginning of that now.
Facebook vice president of Partnerships Dan Rose at Midem on Monday (Facebook: “There’s a New Currency. It’s the Number of People Sharing Your Music…”).  Fascinating thought that seems backed up by analytics.  But, of course, self-serving.  Let’s see how this thing evolves.

This is a very interesting article about engagement on Facebook for large brand Pages.  We’re not surprised at the small “conversion” numbers but, in our experience, we have managed to achieve much better engagement rates (4%+) on smaller Pages (think 30k likes vs. 3m likes) so there is a qualitative issue with large numbers of followers for a Facebook brand Page (namely, the more followers, the more likely they will consist of a majority of “light” followers). This is a must read though for social media marketers… (Study: Only 1% of Facebook ‘Fans’ Engage With Brands)

A PageLever study showed that only 3 percent to 7.5 percent of Facebook fans actually see your posts. Rather than focusing on how many likes your page has, focus on quality relevant content and moving the engagement up.
Another great quote this morning!  This one is from a pretty good article about what not to do in social media.  But, being biased, we mostly read it as a strong case for engagement above just accumulating followers of your owned media (5 Biggest Mistakes Businesses Make in Social Media Marketing).

A rather amazing infographic chock-full of very important stats about social media and ecommerce.  A must “read”. (Do we “read” infographics? Peruse?)
