Since implementing “want” and “own” buttons in November, the Facebook-only e-commerce player has seen customers rise from 500,000 to 1.1 million without making an ad buy on the social site.

34% of American and Canadian consumers say they would never purchase products via a retailer’s Facebook page, compared to 19% who said they would (9%) or already have (10%) done so.
From an Oracle study (see more here). That seems like a lot to us but Facebook commerce is still in its infancy.

In this day and age, if marketers aren’t tapping data to gain customer insights, it’s considered naive and irresponsible. Especially as we head toward this holiday retail season, marketers need to step up and begin reaching those 74 percent of consumers who rely on social networks to guide purchasing decisions and put them to work as word-of-mouth advocates.
